About This Project

This project involved the complete re-design of the dining terrace of a family garden. The original paving in this instance was uneven and failing, with mismatched levels and loose slabs. The layout was also illogical, with areas of the paving that were too narrow to be used comfortably at all.

My design shifted the primary axis of the terrace so that it was centred on the main set of French doors out into the garden. A secondary, shady seating area was created, covered by a pergola; and a space for barbecuing was designed near the house.

The materials used echoed those used in the house and the rest of the garden; brick step risers, edging details and retaining walls and natural stone paving. The design incorporated generous planting around the terrace, to soften the edges of the hard landscaping, and to integrate the newly-constructed area in to the rest of the mature garden.
